And Zia, as soon as she knew what her name was, requested she be called Zia for the rest of her life. Not that her middle name was any better, but she had to make a choice. And granted, the little girl was only five when she made this choice, but it was a choice that stuck; she was passionate and opinionated from a young age, and knew what she wanted. Her parents, both opinionated people themselves, raised Zia to be independent, they just never realized how independent she'd become. Born in Salem, Massachusetts, Zia was raised by Wiccans and was brought up into the religion herself. She hated anyone who made fun of her religion or used "Wiccan" as a way to get people to love them by casting love spells, and looked down on the tourists in October around Halloween who clearly weren't respectful of the true meaning of Fall. Truthfully, as much as Zia loved living in Salem, she longed to get out of the town and do something new for a change; the town was turning more and more into a touristy town, and Zia needed to go somewhere else.

So...she chose another tourist trap, by moving directly into Boston. Which, well it wasn't her best idea, but it was an idea that she made and she had to stick to it. It was easy to disappear into the city, to go to college and study Art and History and keep to herself. And she did that for a while, getting her art into shows that she hadn't expected. Started to craft jewelry that was Gothic styling in nature and made a name for herself online. And when she got out of college, she longed for something new. Someone she could hold on to. Zia wasn't a stranger to love, but she was a stranger to courtship and marriage, and when she was 23, found herself betting married to someone twice her age at 46. Hank was a nice man, but he was looking for someone to take care of him, and was looking for someone who would give him children; Zia was not either one of those people but she married him anyway.

Hank was a very rich man, and he wanted to keep Zia at home where she could play housewife and be Suzy Homemaker, and that just wasn't Zia's style. She wanted to create art, she wanted to go out at night, she wanted to see her friends. The marriage was something she would look back on in the future and have regrets, but 23 year old Zia didn't know any better. Their marriage lasted longer than anyone expected, and when Hank finally died of a heart attack when he was 56 and Zia was 33, Zia made sure to play the mourning wife. But the truth was, Hank and Zia had started to resent themselves after a while. And truthfully, both of them were having affairs, only remaining with each other simply out of familiarity. At least, that was what Zia told herself.

After Hank passed away, Zia found herself with a plethora of money that was left to her, and a lot of free time. She still created, painted, drew, and she still created her jewelry, but she needed something else. A few classes and an internship later, she found herself to be a budding tattoo artist, and soon found herself wanting to open up a shop. And in the pursuit of trying to open up a shop, she fell in love with someone else; this time only ten years older than her. A fellow tattoo artist named Dale who loved the craft as much as she did, and loved the business as much as she did. But as her last marriage went, soon she had discovered Dale was having affairs, and soon she fell into that trap as well, even finding herself going back to the same man more than once. It wasn't often that Zia would get emotionally attached to someone, but she had done just that; and that was the reason of her filing for divorce by the time she was 40. For Zia, having an emotional attachment to someone who wasn't her husband, even if she was having affairs, just wasn't right. Dale, for his part, agreed, and when they both finally came clean to each other about seeing other people for years, they ended up actually laughing about it. Dale moved out of state to California, and Zia took over the tattoo parlor completely under her own ownership. And when Dale died a year after moving to California, Zia found herself surprised that Dale had left all his life savings to her -- despite being divorced and miles away from each other.

Four years later, Zia finds herself happy for the first time in her life, single but actually enjoying it. While she's no longer a practicing Wiccan, she does still celebrate the Solstice with her parents, and does her best to visit them regularly, even trying to see them during the worst tourist times of the year. She's still drawn to magic and the darker side of life, but tries her best to ignore those pulls, even when they're so tempting. Zia's biggest problem is that she's never been one to say no to what she really wants, and temptation has always had a hold over her.
